Construction of the National Key Laboratory for Advanced Inorganic Fibers and Composite Materials was launched in Beijing.

      From May 27th to 28th, the Launching Ceremony of the National Key Laboratory for Advanced Inorganic Fibers and Composite Materials and the Symposium on High-Quality Development of High-Performance Carbon Fibers and Their Composite Materials were held in Beijing. The symposium, themed “Shouldering National Responsibility and Doing National Work to Promote High-Quality Development of the Carbon Fiber and Composite Materials Industry,” brought together renowned academicians, experts, and scholars in the field of high-performance fibers and their composite materials, including Du Shanyi, Chen Xiangbao, Yu Jianyong, and Feng Zhihai.More than 200 people attended the meeting, including leaders from the China Building Materials Federation, China National Building Materials Group, China National Building Materials Co., Ltd., representatives from co-construction units such as Harbin Institute of Technology, CNBM Aviation, and Sinoma Shenying, heads of leading enterprises in the industry, and regular laboratory staff.

      In his address, Liu Jianhua, Vice President of the China Building Materials Federation, emphasized that national key laboratories are an important component of the national science and technology innovation system, serving as crucial platforms for conducting high-level basic and applied basic research, gathering and cultivating outstanding scientific and technological talents, and carrying out high-level academic exchanges. The National Key Laboratory of Advanced Inorganic Fibers and Composite Materials, restructured under the leadership of Sinoma Science & Technology, possesses advantages such as a clear market orientation, strong resource guarantee capabilities, and high efficiency in technology transfer, making it of great significance for promoting the green, low-carbon, safe, and high-quality development of the building materials industry.He put forward three hopes for the construction of the laboratory: First, based on the major strategic needs of the country and the industry, focus on key core technologies, strengthen basic research and cutting-edge exploration, and build a world-class innovation platform; second, make full use of the platform’s advantages, integrate the strengths of all parties, and build an innovation ecosystem that deeply integrates industry, academia, research and application; and third, strengthen the construction of talent teams and international cooperation, and build a strategic highland for the gathering of high-end talents.

      Li Xinhua, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of China National Building Materials Group, stated that competition between nations ultimately boils down to competition among large enterprises and industries. Enterprises are the main drivers of innovation. As the only national key laboratory in the field of advanced fiber materials led by an enterprise, it must take it as its responsibility to meet the country’s major needs and lead the industry’s technological progress. It should strengthen demand orientation, plan scientific research projects, solve “bottleneck” problems, and ensure the independent control of key materials. It should focus on the industry’s pain points, seize the commanding heights of science and technology in key directions, and enhance the industry’s international competitiveness. It should innovate management models, rely on the advantages of all parties, and form a deep integration of “production, learning, research, and application” to support the construction of the laboratory.

      Huang Yudong, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Committee and Vice President of Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), and President of HIT (Shenzhen), congratulated the laboratory on its successful reorganization. He stated that HIT will closely focus on the laboratory’s mission, goals, and tasks, and strive to play an important role in strengthening basic research, promoting energy-saving innovation, and cultivating top talents.

      Zhi Xiao, Assistant General Manager of China National Building Materials Group and Party Secretary and Chairman of China Building Materials Academy, delivered a speech and announced the list of laboratory appointments. He emphasized that the laboratory focuses on “bottleneck” areas, aims to become a source of original technologies for advanced inorganic fibers and composite materials, adheres to national responsibility and national mission, ensures the security of my country’s advanced inorganic fiber and composite material industry chain and the independent control of core technologies, and jointly writes a new chapter in serving the country through science and technology.

      Huang Zaiman, Party Secretary and Chairman of Sinoma Science & Technology, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the laboratory’s supporting institutions. He stated that the laboratory was optimized and reorganized from the original State Key Laboratory of Special Fiber Composite Materials, jointly established by Sinoma Science & Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, and China National Building Materials Aviation Industry Corporation (CNBM Aviation). This strong alliance and complementary strengths have created a deeply integrated innovation community encompassing industry, academia, research, and application, possessing a unique full-chain innovation model. Sinoma Science & Technology will take serving national strategies as its mission, open collaboration as its path, and technological innovation as its driving force, adhering to the “four orientations” (facing the world, facing the future, facing the world, facing the world, facing the world, facing the world) and pooling superior resources to support the laboratory’s development into a national strategic scientific and technological force in the field of new materials.

      Academician Zhang Lianmeng, a member of the laboratory’s academic committee, expressed his high expectations and firm confidence in the laboratory’s development. He stated that, given the complex and ever-changing international situation, he believes the laboratory, through the efforts of all its members, will be able to seize opportunities, overcome challenges, and achieve outstanding results.

      The conference included the launch ceremony for the construction of national key laboratories and the signing ceremony for co-construction units.
